Oversized Vehicles

Buses under 31 feet are permitted to travel on designated streets in the interior of the French Quarter.

Buses over 31 feet are prohibited in the interior of the French Quarter but may enter the French Quarter at Canal Street and only travel north on the Riverside of North Peters Street and Decatur Street. Violators may be subjected to a $500 fine. (Special permits from hotels may provide exceptions.)

Buses are only permitted to load and offload passengers at designated locations on Rampart Street; in the 300 blocks of Front and Bienville Streets; and on Decatur Street, near the French Market.

Trucks over 36 feet are also prohibited in the interior of the French Quarter. This includes delivery trucks. An oversized load permit may be obtained from the City of New Orleans Department of Public Works.
