Do you know it’s illegal to:

  • Stop or park a vehicle (car, motorcycle, Vespa, etc.) on, or drive over, a sidewalk, curb, corner or neutral ground. No signage or yellow paint is needed. Sec. 154-314, 387, 923, 1031, 1032.
  • Fail to pick up after your pet (including on a sidewalk, sidewalk garden, street, park, Cabrini Park, Levee, or neutral ground). Sec. 18-13
  • Ride a bicycle on a sidewalk, in a pedestrian mall, or the wrong direction on a 1-way street. Sec. 154, 1411, 1416
  • Obstruct a sidewalk or public right-of-way so as to prevent its free and proper use. Sec. 54-401,146-493, 494(a)
  • Ride a bicycle without obeying ALL traffic laws and traffic control devices applicable to a motor vehicle. Sec. 154-1411, 1412
  • Stop or park within 20 feet of a crosswalk, intersection or stop sign, or within 15 feet of a fire hydrant. All measured from the outer edge of the vehicle. No signage or yellow paint needed. Sec. 154-923(a) (4), (6), (7)
  • Park within 3 feet of the curb return of a driveway unless you have the owner’s permission. All measured from the outer edge of the vehicle. No signage or yellow paint needed. Sec. 154-923(a) (2)
  • Double park a vehicle, or drive or park a vehicle in a pedestrian mall. Sec. 154-608, 923(a) (11)
  • Put residential garbage, including bulky waste, anywhere except curbside in front of your own home; residential garbage must be in a black 3-ply or 0.5-mil plastic bag or in a roll cart that is NOT overflowing and has a closed and sealed lid. Sec. 138-38, 39, 42, 43
  • Put small business garbage, including bulky waste, anywhere except curbside in front of your own business, in a roll cart that is NOT overflowing and has a closed and sealed lid. Sec. 138-38, 39, 42, 43
  • Leave or store a roll cart on a public right-of-way; all roll carts “shall be stored…on user’s property.” Sec. 138-42(a)(1) Sweep trash or debris into the street, or fail to keep your sidewalk clean and in good repair. Sec. 138-39; 146-190; 66-287
  • Perform (applies to all performers) on Bourbon Street between Iberville and St. Ann Streets from 8 PM to 6 AM. Sec. 30-1456 Leasing living accommodations (condo, apartment, house, bed, or bedroom) in the Vieux Carré for less than 60 days. Sec. 54-491.1
  • Fail to remove grafitti from your building or structure within 30 days of notice. Sec. 54-151(c) Illuminate a Vieux Carré sidewalk, roof, etc. with a floodlight. Sec. 166-3
  • Operate a motorcycle not equipped with an exhaust muffler bearing the appropriate EPA certificate; or be a visitor operating a motorcycle in the Vieux Carré between midnight and 6 AM. Sec. 154-314
  • Stop or park a buggy-carriage in a fire lane (other than for a stop sign) or in a parking lane within 20 feet of a crosswalk, intersection or stop sign. Sec. 54-401; 146-494; 154-2 (“vehicle”); 923
  • Have a missing, ill-fitting, unstrapped, or leaking diaper on a mule. Sec. 162-549
  • Begin exterior work on a Vieux Carré building or structure without a VCC permit. Sec. 166-21, 35
